The Psychology Clinic is
committed to providing the best mental health care services available
to adolescents and adults living in the Eugene-Springfield area, including
faculty, staff, and students at the University of Oregon. To
accomplish this goal, we use empirically-supported techniques
as the basis for designing, implementing, and evaluating our
assessment and intervention procedures. The term
"empirically-supported" means that we use techniques that have been
found to be effective in the scientific literature. All of our services are informed by scientific research, whenever
possible. We specialize in a particular form of psychotherapy called cognitive behavior therapy. What is
cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)? CBT is one of the few forms of psychotherapy that has been scientifically tested
and found to be effective in numerous clinical trials for many different disorders. In contrast to other forms of
psychotherapy, cognitive therapy is usually more focused on the present, more time-limited and more problem-solving oriented.
Indeed, much of what the client does is solve current problems. In addition, clients learn specific skills that they can
use for the rest of their lives.
